Located in Houston’s historic Boulevard Oaks neighborhood, this 1926 residence—originally designed by Birdsall Briscoe with landscape work by Ellen Shipman—underwent a complete interior renovation and addition led by Jackson Warren. The five-year project restored the home’s architectural integrity while removing past alterations, reestablishing a clearer relationship between the original structure and its expanded footprint.

Rather than treating the house as a period piece, the design sharpens its French Breton character through a deliberate use of material and scale. Limited natural light informed a deeper palette—earth tones, aged woods, and plaster finishes—offset by moments of contrast that feel intentional, not decorative. Throughout, the emphasis remains on proportion, longevity, and restraint.

The home was designed to support daily life. A hardworking mudroom clad in Pennsylvania bluestone connects directly to the kitchen and family spaces, accommodating children, dogs, and the rhythms of a full household. The result is a fully realized, whole-home environment—one that honors its architectural lineage while bringing a grounded, modern perspective to a historic Houston residence.
